Indian Cricket

  • After its emergence in the 18th century, Cricket was only played between Australia and England. It was a kind of sport that was played by the Kings in those days. This sport was hardly followed in main parts of South Asia. It emerged in India in the 20th century, when India played its first Test match against England in 1932 under the captaincy of Lala Amarnath.
  • Later on many players emerged through this very game, thus making the game popular than before. The craze for Cricket in India increased to a greater extent after the emergence of Cricket players such as Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, Ajay Jadeja, Ravi Shastri etc. The list is endless.
  • But the main events for Indian Cricket include the 1983 Cricket World Cup victory against the dominating West Indies. Later on the emergence of prolific cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly earned a huge fan following throughout India.Indian Cricket reached greater heights by defeating Australia in their own home.
  • Then came the game changer MS Dhoni, who changed the entire history of Indian Cricket. From a dynamic batsman to a cool wicket keeper, he performed every role justifiably. The ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2007 victory, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 win are truly remarkable.
  • But one great thing I appreciate endlessly about MS Dhoni is the legacy that he has left after him. The captaincy with a strong leadership quality resulted into some bright players such as Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Suresh Raina etc.
  • I can only say that all the above mentioned few events are just sufficient to define how Indian Cricket has evolved over the last 20-30 years. I can say that India has contributed a lot to the entire Cricketing world by its talent and huge follower base.
If I were to write an essay on this topic, I guess I could have composed an epic. I apologize for not mentioning each and every player in this blogpost. I have tried my level best to keep this blogpost short.

Thanks for reading!!!
