- Well known for the Bhoodan Movement
- Translated Bhagwad Gita into Marathi

- University named after him: Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh, Jharkhand
- In 1958, he was the first recipient of the International Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership.
