WWC 2017: Indian Women's Cricket Team

Yesterday was the Grand Finale of ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2017 played between the giants ENG vs IND at the Mecca of International Cricket i.e. Lords Cricket Ground. Everyone was aware about the dominance of ENG Cricket Team in the Womens' Edition Of Cricket. ENG's appearance in the finals was not a big deal. But, the presence of Indian Women's Cricket Team in the finals was a really big event as per the stats of the Women's World Cup is concerned.

Batting First, ENG posted a competitive total of 228/7 in 50 overs. Natalie Sciver was their top scorer. She contributed 51(68) with the bat. Sarah Taylor also added 45(62) runs with the bat. IND bowlers, especially Jhulan Goswami showed her experience by picking 3/23. Poonam Yadav also bowled an economical spell of 2/36 in 10 overs.

Now, in reply, IND got a bad start with Smriti Mandhana being dismissed on a duck, continuing her series of low scores in this tournament. After few more overs, IND skipper Mithali Raj got run out with IND struggling with 43/2 in 12.1 overs. Responsibility was on opener Poonam Raut and star performer Harmanpreet Kaur. Both these batsmen played stunning shots thus building an outstanding partnership. Both of them completed their half-centuries. But, Harmanpreet Kaur got dismissed after scoring brilliant 51 runs.
Things seemed to be easy and difficult at the same time. But the way in which Poonam Raut batted with Veda Krishnamurthy, felt at one stage that IND will win this match easily. IND needed just 38 to win with 7 wickets in hand. But, then one storm came in the name of Anya ShrubsoleShrubsole dismissed Raut and then within few overs, whole IND team was collapsed for 219 runs. At last, IND felt short of just 9 runs.

The reality is that IND lost that match by just 9 runs. But, I think that IND Women's Cricket Team has showed the real spirit of Cricket and thus raised their level of playing Cricket. Although they lost the match, they have won the hearts of millions of Indian and World Cricket fans by making a positive impact in their minds.

I congratulate Team India for their achievements in this World Cup. Moreover, I feel happy to see the whole team playing like a unit and every player in the team contributed their part throughout this tournament.

JAI HIND!!!
